On request of the International Labour Union (ILO) and the League of Nations, Fridtjof Nansen travelled together with an appointed committee of experts, visiting the country and looking at the plans for artificial irrigation of parts of the desert, in order to relocate refugees there. Auf Aufforderung des Internationalen Arbeitsbüros (ILO) und des Völkerbunds reiste Fridtjof Nansen zusammen mit einer ausgewählten Kommision Fachleuten zu einem Besuch im Lande, um die Pläne für künstliche Bewässerung der Wüstengebiete zu untersuchen.
